Ferry Service Between Trabzon and Sochi Resumes After Long Hiatus

Türkiye and Russia have reopened the ferry route across the Black Sea after many years of interruption. The Seabridge vessel departed from the port of Trabzon and set sail for Sochi, Russia.

This marks the first voyage on the route in nearly 14 years. The journey takes around 12 hours, with ticket prices starting at 70 USD. The ferry’s movement can be tracked in real time through Marine Traffic.

The ship can accommodate 450 passengers and 200 vehicles. Although only 20 passengers boarded the inaugural trip, company representative Mustafa Çakır said interest in the route is high.

“We’re receiving calls not only from Türkiye but also from neighboring countries — Greece, Bulgaria, and Romania. We expect demand to rise significantly during the summer and school holidays. We hope this route will fully revive,” he said.

To mark the reopening, passengers were offered cabins instead of standard seats. In Sochi, the ferry will dock at the cruise terminal where a ticket office has been opened.

The renewed route is expected to boost tourism and trade between the two countries.
