President Opens First Meeting of Artificial Intelligence Development Council

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev chaired the inaugural meeting of the Council for the Development of Artificial Intelligence in Astana.

The council, established by presidential decree, serves as a consultative body tasked with shaping Kazakhstan’s AI development strategy, supporting the integration of technologies into key economic sectors and governance, and providing recommendations for national programs and strategic documents.

“First of all, I would like to sincerely thank the members of the Council who have come to Astana. Today’s meeting is held under the theme: ‘Artificial Intelligence in Education: Great Opportunities and Challenges.’ Education and science are strategic fields, and therefore, we will begin our discussions in this area,” Tokayev said in his opening remarks.

The meeting brought together representatives of the government, including the Prime Minister and sectoral ministers, along with leading international experts and scholars from top universities and companies in the UAE, U.S., and China. The agenda focused on the role of AI in education, workforce training, and its integration across economic sectors.

President Tokayev also toured a digital solutions exhibition. Members of the council include Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, Chief of Presidential Administration Aibek Dadebai, National Security Committee Chairman Yermek Sagimbayev, Samruk-Kazyna CEO Nurlan Zhakypov, Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek, as well as distinguished international experts such as UAE AI Minister Omar Al Olama, Sinovation Ventures CEO Kai-Fu Lee, and Cornell Professor John Hopcroft.
