Uzbekistan Plans to Raise Retirement Age

Uzbekistan is preparing to raise the retirement age, with men set to retire at 63 instead of 60 and women at 58 instead of 55.

The plan was announced by Murodbek Otajonov, Executive Director of the Pension Fund, Spot reports.

The draft reform proposes a gradual increase, adding six months to the retirement age each year. Otajonov emphasized that in many countries the retirement threshold is already above 65, while Uzbekistan has not changed its retirement age for more than three decades since the adoption of the national pension law.

According to the Ministry of Health, life expectancy in Uzbekistan now averages 75 years. To ensure public input, the Pension Fund will launch a special platform where citizens can submit their proposals for one month. These ideas will be reviewed and, if necessary, incorporated into the reform before it is formally introduced.

Otajonov also noted that a softer option is under consideration: raising the retirement age by three months annually. This would extend the reform process to 12 years, with the retirement age increasing by one year every four years.
