Prospects for Joint Film Production in the Turkic World Discussed in Istanbul
A panel discussion titled “The Future of Turkic World Cinema: Trends and Opportunities for Co-Production” was held in Istanbul, focusing on strengthening collaboration in film production among Turkic-speaking countries.

The panel addressed legal, financial, and creative dimensions of joint filmmaking. Speakers emphasized the need to accelerate efforts to build technical infrastructure for co-productions and expand cooperation.
TÜRKSOY underscored its central role in coordinating cultural collaboration and pledged support for projects that reflect shared Turkic values, offering both technical and organizational assistance.
Birol Güven, Director General of Türkiye’s National Film Agency, called for a shift from quantity to quality in filmmaking. He urged moving away from the mindset of “better small but mine” and instead embracing joint production efforts.
Kazakhfilm’s representative Asset Ernazarov highlighted the studio’s advanced production and post-production capacities and revealed ongoing co-productions with Turkish companies under 50/50 partnership models. Kyrgyz representatives also expressed openness to international collaboration.
Panelists noted a lack of sufficient interconnectivity among filmmakers in the Turkic world and stressed that joint cinematic projects carry strategic cultural value for future generations.
