Uzbekistan Expands State-Funded University Grants for 2025/2026 Academic Year

Uzbekistan has announced a major increase in the number of state-funded university grants for the upcoming 2025/2026 academic year, signaling a significant step toward expanding access to higher education

According to the Ministry of Justice’s official Telegram channel, 35,500 government scholarships will be allocated to full-time undergraduate students and 9,922 to master’s programs.

This marks an increase from last year, when 34,838 undergraduate and 9,365 graduate scholarships were offered.

Under a presidential decree, the number of state-funded slots will continue to grow annually. The government plans to allocate 36,023 undergraduate grants in 2026/2027, 36,460 in 2027/2028, and 36,761 in 2028/2029. Similarly, master’s program grants will rise to 10,191, 10,477, and 10,784, respectively.

The government is also expanding grant access to other groups:
– 1,320 grants will be available for non-state and foreign universities,
– 30 grants are reserved for young Uzbeks studying abroad,
– and 4,000 grants will be specifically allocated for women.

Allocation of grants will consider regional and sectoral needs, and priority will be given to fields like languages, arts, and sports. Additional quotas will also be considered for applicants with special eligibility.

Notably, Uzbekistan has introduced a dynamic system where state scholarships are no longer fixed for four years. Instead, they will be reallocated annually based on student performance, incentivizing academic excellence throughout the study period.
