President Meets with ICAO Council President

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held talks with ICAO Council President Salvatore Sciacchitano in Astana.

During the meeting, Tokayev highlighted that Kazakhstan was the first in the region to establish an independent Aviation Administration, significantly strengthening flight safety oversight. Since last year, Kazakhstan’s Permanent Mission has been operating in Montreal under ICAO.

The President noted the opening of new terminals in Almaty, Shymkent, and Kyzylorda. The Almaty Airport’s capacity has increased sixfold, from 2.5 million to 14 million passengers annually. Plans are underway to launch new international routes, including to New York, Tokyo, and Singapore.

Special emphasis was placed on the signing of a civil aviation master plan between Kazakhstan and ICAO, aimed at long-term strategic development of the sector.

At the end of the meeting, Tokayev awarded Salvatore Sciacchitano the Dostyk Order (1st Class) for his contribution to international aviation cooperation.
