Samarkand to Cook 7 Tons of Pilaf at Culinary Festival

From August 1–3, the city of Samarkand will host the “Samarkand Osh” Festival, dedicated to Uzbekistan’s most iconic dish — plov (pilaf).

The event, which is being organized by the regional Tourism Department, will feature competitions among over 200 chefs, cooking classes, tastings of more than 20 types of plov, exhibitions of national cuisines, traditional sweets, handicrafts, and cultural performances.

The festival’s highlight will be the preparation of 7 tons of Samarkand-style plov at the “Eternal City” park.

For context, in 2023, a record-breaking 8 tons of plov were cooked in Andijan’s Izboskan district to celebrate Uzbekistan’s Constitution Day.
