Turkic Opera Festival Held in Almaty

The Abay Kazakh National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Almaty hosted a gala concert as part of the 26th International Festival of Turkic Opera Art, organized by the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY).

Renowned opera soloists from Kazakhstan, Türkiye, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan performed alongside the symphony orchestra and choir of the Abay Theatre. The evening featured arias from both national and global classical works, opening with a scene from Yevgeny Brusilovsky’s opera Kyz Zhibek.

The concert was conducted by Kazakhstan’s Honored Artist Yerbolat Akhmediayrov, Kuanish Ismailov, and the chief conductor of the Kyrgyz National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, Zakhar Butenko.

The festival also included the 4th meeting of the Council of Directors of Turkic Opera and Ballet Theatres. Participants discussed ways to enhance cultural collaboration and deepen spiritual ties across the Turkic world. They toured the theatre’s museum, learning about the history and legacy of Kazakhstan’s oldest musical theatre. The meeting was opened by Kazakhstan’s TURKSOY representative Nyshankul Karatayeva, who read a congratulatory message from TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev.
