Water Shortage in Bishkek Follows Major Power Outage
A large-scale power outage in parts of Bishkek has led to a temporary water shortage, affecting thousands of residents in the Kyrgyz capital.

According to the municipal water company, Bishkekvodokanal, the blackout disrupted the operation of over 300 pumping stations and all main water intake facilities, causing serious pressure imbalances and failures in the hydraulic system.
Emergency teams have been working around the clock to restore normal operations. Specialists are gradually stabilizing water pressure and restarting pumping stations in phases. However, interruptions in water supply may continue until the system is fully restored.
The company urged residents to remain patient while the repair work is underway.
The power outage, which occurred on June 18, left several districts of Bishkek without electricity. The Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan confirmed an emergency incident had disrupted the power supply in the capital and surrounding areas. While electricity was eventually restored, initial reports indicate the failure may have been caused by a technical fault at one of the energy facilities.
