The event unfolded over three stages: presentation of completed works, live demonstration of weaving techniques, and a final round where participants performed songs and poems accompanied by the national instrument — the dutar.
Artisans from Ahal Province were named the overall winners. Organizers emphasized the importance of passing down the sacred art of carpet weaving to younger generations. Notably, Turkmen carpet weaving was inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2019.
“We aimed to turn this event into a true celebration of craftsmanship, and I believe we succeeded. Passing this delicate and spiritual tradition to the youth is essential — it’s a part of our soul and history,” said Ogulmoral Amanjanova, a senior specialist at the state association Turkmenkhaly.
“Our carpets decorate weddings and homes. I learned this art from my mother and passed it to my daughters — I hope to teach my granddaughters, too,” shared craftswoman Bahargul Gylijova.
