Uzbekistan Sees Sharp Rise in Unlawful Disclosure of Personal Data

Uzbekistan has recorded a significant increase in cases involving the illegal sharing of citizens' personal data.

According to the Ministry of Justice, administrative violations related to data privacy have surged 2.5 times in the past three years, while criminal cases have grown by nearly 40%.

Spokesperson Hayot Kilichev stressed that, under Uzbek law, individuals can only be photographed or filmed with their direct consent. For minors, parental permission is mandatory before publishing any materials.

Exceptions apply in public settings such as concerts and rallies, where no consent is required. Similarly, if a person is under official search, their photo and data may be released without approval.
