According to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the discovery was made at the Göktepe-3 well within the Sakarya Gas Field after 49 days of drilling. The newly found reserve holds 75 billion cubic meters of natural gas, valued at an estimated $30 billion.
Preliminary assessments suggest the volume could meet Türkiye’s domestic demand for approximately 3.5 years, supporting the country’s broader strategy to reduce dependence on energy imports and enhance energy independence.
Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated that development of the site would be accelerated and production at an industrial scale would begin as swiftly as possible. The new field is expected to significantly reduce Türkiye’s energy import costs and bolster its position as a key regional energy player.
Bayraktar also emphasized that the discovery reaffirms the promising potential of the Black Sea basin and showcases Türkiye’s growing success in expanding its energy infrastructure.
