Turkish Airlines Introduces New Rules to Strengthen Flight Safety
Turkish Airlines (THY), Türkiye’s national flag carrier, has implemented a new set of regulations aimed at enhancing in-flight safety and cabin discipline.

Approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (SHGM), the new “General Guidelines for Passenger Notification” state that passengers who leave their seats before the aircraft comes to a complete stop will now face administrative penalties.
According to an internal notice issued to cabin crew, passengers who stand up, open overhead compartments, or ignore crew instructions before the seatbelt sign is turned off will be classified as “unruly passengers” and may be subject to fines under existing legislation.
Expanded Responsibilities for Cabin Crew
The regulation also imposes new duties on cabin crew, requiring them to issue a final warning to passengers after the landing announcement, reminding them to remain seated until the seatbelt sign is turned off.
Strict Measures Against Smoking on Board
As part of SHGM’s directive effective from May 2, 2025, tighter surveillance will be enforced against passengers who smoke or violate onboard regulations. Any actions posing a threat to flight safety will be met with swift administrative and disciplinary measures.
