Toxic Gas Blowout Reported at Uzbekistan’s Mustaqillik-25 Gas Field
A high-pressure gas blowout occurred at the Mustaqillik-25 gas field in Uzbekistan's Surkhandarya region on May 5, releasing gas with elevated hydrogen sulfide content into the atmosphere, the Ministry of Energy reported.

The incident took place at well No. 202. In response, authorities opted to ignite the gas to prevent its spread, following standard safety protocols. Officials have cordoned off the area, and the situation remains under full control.
The ministry emphasized that the burning gas poses no danger to nearby residents. However, this is not the first incident at the site: a similar blowout in September last year at another well claimed four lives.
