This was announced by Azim Akhmedkhadzhaev, Director of the Uzatom Agency, in an interview with Alter Ego, as reported by Kazinform.
— The estimated cost of the plant is below $2 billion. This is our projected figure, but I cannot specify the exact amount yet, as work is still ongoing, — said Akhmedkhadzhaev.
He noted that the agency is actively cutting expenses, and so far, $300 million has been saved on the project.
The construction will be financed through foreign investments and preferential Chinese loans, without involving Russian funds. The state budget will be used minimally.
Uzbekistan’s first small-scale nuclear power plant, built using Russian technology, will be located near Lake Tuzkan in the Jizzakh region. It will feature six reactors of 55 MW each, with a total capacity of 330 MW. The first reactor is set to be commissioned by the end of 2029, with full capacity expected by 2033.
Recently, Uzbekistan and Russia signed a protocol on the enforcement of the nuclear plant construction agreement.
