Women’s Boxing: Kazakhstan’s Historic Triumph at the World Championship

The Women’s World Boxing Championship, which concluded in Niš, Serbia, was a resounding success for the Kazakhstan national team. After several years, the team delivered an outstanding performance, winning three gold, two silver, and one bronze medal.

This achievement solidifies Kazakhstan’s position in international women’s boxing. Previously, at the 2016 World Championship in Astana, the team secured 4 gold and 2 bronze medals, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.

Kazakhstan was represented with a full squad, competing in 35 bouts and winning 26.

  • Nazym Kyzaibay (48 kg) – became Kazakhstan’s first-ever three-time world champion (2014, 2016, 2025). President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated her on this historic achievement.
  • Alua Balkybekova (50 kg) – dominated the final against her Chinese opponent (5:0), becoming a world championship medalist in all categories (gold-2025, silver-2022, bronze-2023).
  • Aida Abikeyeva (63 kg) – showcased her skills and secured her first-ever world championship gold.

  • Viktoriya Grafeeva (60 kg) – fought her way to the final but fell short in the last match.
  • Eldana Talipova (+81 kg) – reinforced her status as one of Kazakhstan’s best heavyweight boxers.

  • Natalya Bogdanova (70 kg) – reached the semifinals and finished among the world’s top three.
