Tajikistan is set to begin construction of the longest road bridge in Central Asia as part of the Obigarm-Nurabad highway project, reports Avesta.
An agreement on the project was signed by Tajikistan’s Minister of Transport, Azim Ibrohim, and Li Minkun, a representative of the Chinese company Zhejiang Communications Construction Group Co Ltd (CCCC).
According to the report, the bridge will stretch 920 meters, and including access roads, it will span 1,500 meters.
Minister Azim Ibrohim stated that the bridge will cross the Surkhob River in the Nurabad district and will become the largest infrastructure project in the region. He also emphasized its strategic importance for the country’s economy.
“The construction of the bridge must be completed with high quality and within the established deadlines. There is even a possibility that the work will be finished ahead of schedule,” Ibrohim stressed.
The project, expected to be completed within four years, will be implemented at a cost of 427.5 million Chinese yuan (approximately $59.8 million).
According to Li Minkun, the representative of Zhejiang Communications Construction Group, the company has been successfully operating in Tajikistan for several years and has significant experience in road and bridge construction.
