Almaty Region Strengthens Cooperation with China
Akim of Almaty Region, Marat Sultanгазиев, held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Kazakhstan, Han Chunlin.

During the talks, the parties discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in trade, economy, investment, and tourism, TuraNews.kz reports.
Growth in Trade Turnover
Economic relations between Almaty Region and China continue to show positive dynamics, with Chinese investments playing a crucial role in the development of the region’s agro-industrial sector. Several successful projects have been implemented with China, including:
- LLP “KIK Zhibek Zholy” – Introduction of drip irrigation technologies (7.5 billion tenge, 450 jobs).
- LLP “KIK Zhibek Zholy” – Construction of a dry milk production plant (7.5 billion tenge, 27 jobs).
- LLP “KIK Zhibek Zholy” – Animal feed production plant (7.5 billion tenge, 60 jobs).
Several promising projects are also in the pipeline:
- CITIC CONSTRUCTION CO., LTD – Construction and reconstruction of irrigation systems over 26,000 hectares (234 billion tenge).
- SHANGHAI STRATCH BIOTECHNOLOGY Co., Ltd and EURASIAN CONTINENTAL BRIDGE Co., Ltd – Fructose, maltose, and lactose production plant (206.5 billion tenge, 2,000 jobs).
- Fufeng Group – Deep grain processing plant (1,000 jobs).
Industrial Development
Chinese investors are actively involved in large-scale industrial projects in the region, including:
- LLP “Zhetysu Tungsten” – Tungsten processing plant (135 billion tenge, 350 jobs).
- LLP “Kelun Kazpharm” – Pharmaceutical factory (7.5 billion tenge, 450 jobs).
- LLP “Qazmetproduct” – Steel wire production (359 million tenge, 60 jobs).
Additional industrial initiatives are planned, such as:
- BAOXIN (Zhambyl District) – Metallurgical products manufacturing (106 billion tenge, 500 jobs).
- TBEA – Transformer plant construction (50 billion tenge, 500 jobs).
- LLP “Baulong Quice” – Special machinery assembly plant (52 billion tenge, 1,366 jobs).
Tourism Potential
China remains a key partner for Almaty Region in the tourism sector. In 2024, the region welcomed more than 11,700 Chinese tourists, marking a 43% increase compared to 2023. During the meeting, both sides discussed the development of joint tourism routes, infrastructure improvements, and Chinese investment in the hospitality sector.
Infrastructure Projects
One of the key topics of discussion was China’s participation in modernizing regional infrastructure. Proposed projects include:
- Construction and reconstruction of engineering networks in the cities of Alatau and Konaev (162 billion tenge).
- Construction of six electrical substations in the region (36 billion tenge).
Support for Cultural Initiatives
As part of strengthening cultural ties, it was announced that Beijing will host celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s renowned People’s Artist Nurgisa Tlendiyev. This event aims to reinforce cultural cooperation between the two nations.
At the conclusion of the negotiations, both sides expressed confidence in further strengthening bilateral cooperation.
