International “Dîvânu Lugâti’t-Türk” Exhibition Opens in Astana
A grand opening ceremony was held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, for the international exhibition "The Head of Virtue is Language: Dîvânu Lugâti’t-Türk." The exhibition is dedicated to the 950th anniversary of the publication of the Dîvânu Lugâti’t-Türk encyclopedic dictionary.
The event was organized by the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation and the Turkic World Foundation with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The heads of delegations from the member countries of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, high-ranking officials of the ministries of culture, statesmen, and opinion leaders attended the event. Among the guests were the Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan Adil Karimli, the Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aida Balayeva, and the President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev. Aktoty Raimkulova, President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, delivered a welcome speech at the opening ceremony.
The exhibition showcases unique artifacts that reveal the rich heritage of the Turkic script and culture. Visitors can closely examine the most authentic copy of Dîvânu Lugâti’t-Türk, its translations into Turkish and Kyrgyz, the portrait of Kashgari Mahmud, and selected words and proverbs from the work.
In addition, re-designed men’s and women’s costumes reflecting the 11th-century lifestyle and traditions are also on display at the exhibition.
The exhibition will continue to welcome visitors at the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan and offer them the opportunity to explore the unique heritage of the Turkic script and culture.
