Kazakh President Receives Turkmenistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held talks with Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, who arrived in Astana on an official visit.
During the meeting, President Tokayev highlighted the steady development of Kazakh-Turkmen relations across all areas, emphasizing the spirit of friendship, good neighborliness, and strategic partnership between the two nations.
The Kazakh leader congratulated Turkmenistan on the launch of the International Year of Peace and Trust, an initiative proposed by Ashgabat, which coincides with the 30th anniversary of the country’s policy of positive neutrality. Tokayev acknowledged the significance of Turkmenistan’s peacekeeping initiatives and reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to fully supporting their successful implementation.
Economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan remains dynamic, with both sides constructively advancing key issues of mutual interest.
During the meeting, Rashid Meredov conveyed warm greetings from President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the Kazakh president.
The Turkmen diplomat underscored the strategic nature of Kazakh-Turkmen relations, noting their strong and long-term prospects. He reaffirmed Ashgabat’s commitment to further strengthening cooperation with Astana across a wide range of intergovernmental areas.
Both sides also reviewed the progress of agreements previously reached at the highest level, particularly in the energy, transit and transport, and cultural and humanitarian sectors.
