Kazakh Citizen Honored as “Honorary Citizen of Seoul”

A solemn ceremony to confer the title of "Honorary Citizen of Seoul" took place at Seoul City Hall.

This year, the prestigious award was bestowed upon Ruslan Kairambaev, a staff member of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Republic of Korea, TuraNews.kz reports .

Since its establishment in 1958, the title has been awarded to only 933 individuals from 100 countries. It recognizes foreign citizens for their significant contributions to the development of Seoul. This year, 16 recipients were honored for their efforts to strengthen international cooperation and advance the city.

Kim Sang-han, First Deputy Mayor of Seoul, praised the exceptional achievements of the awardees and expressed gratitude for their impactful work, emphasizing the importance of fostering connections between peoples and cultures.

Ruslan Kairambaev was recognized for his heroic actions in December last year. He extinguished a burning vehicle emerging from an underground parking garage before firefighters arrived, preventing the fire from spreading and saving lives.

Speaking on behalf of the honorees, Kairambaev thanked Seoul’s city administration for the honor and humbly remarked, “I do not consider my actions heroic; anyone in my place would have done the same.” He also expressed hope that his example would contribute to strengthening the friendship and understanding between Kazakhstan and Korea.

The awarding of this title symbolizes the growing ties between Kazakhstan and South Korea, highlighting the importance of solidarity in fostering international relations.
