Sadyr Japarov: “Every Liter of Water Saved in Kyrgyzstan Helps Our Neighbors”

President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, emphasized the importance of conserving water resources during his speech at the Third People's Kurultai in Bishkek.

According to Kazinform, Japarov highlighted the growing global water scarcity exacerbated by environmental degradation.

“We are a mountainous country, the source of many rivers. Our water resources sustain not only us but also our neighboring countries. Every liter of water we save is a contribution to helping our neighbors. Rational water use is a responsibility we bear not just for ourselves but for the peoples of neighboring nations,” said the President.

Japarov stressed the need for both drinking water and irrigation solutions, calling for ongoing attention and decisive actions.

“We understand the gravity of this issue. In recent years, we have provided over 400,000 people with access to clean drinking water, and by 2025, we plan to extend this access to an additional 150,000. We will not rest until every family in our country has clean water,” he stated.

The two-day Kurultai has brought together 698 delegates from all regions of the country, including 30 representatives of ethnic groups, 30 delegates representing migrant workers abroad, members of the Cabinet of Ministers, parliamentarians, and officials from local and national government bodies. A resolution is expected to be adopted at the conclusion of the event.

It is worth noting that the Second People’s Kurultai was held in Bishkek on December 15–16, 2023.
