Uzbekistan Plans to Produce Electronic Bracelets for Convicts

The Uzbek government intends to launch the production of electronic bracelets designed to monitor individuals under house arrest or restricted freedom.

According to Kazinform, Bakhtiyor Berdigaliev, head of Uzbekistan’s Forensic Research Institute, stated that the device and its management system were developed by experts at the institute.

The development process drew on the experiences of Germany, South Korea, Türkiye, and Hungary. Currently, steps are being taken to patent the device and initiate mass production.

In comparison, Kazakhstan proposed using electronic devices to monitor individuals under probation in 2014, though their practical implementation began only in 2020. Today, domestic companies in Kazakhstan manufacture electronic bracelets. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Penal System Committee, monitoring devices are currently rented from manufacturers. The market price of an electronic bracelet is approximately 150,000 tenge, while the monthly rental fee is around 14,800 tenge.
