200th Anniversary of Ajiniyaz Kosybayuly to Take Place in Türkiye
From December 2 to 5, a conference titled "Ajiniyaz: Poet of the Spiritual World" will be held in Istanbul, Türkiye, to mark the 200th anniversary of the famous Karakalpak poet Ahiniyaz Kosybayuly.
The event is organized by the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TÜRKSOY) and Istanbul University.
In addition, a concert program titled “Songs of Ajiniyaz” will be held at the concert hall in the Bakırköy district of Istanbul. The performance will feature Uzbek and Karakalpak artists, as well as performers from the Karakalpakstan section of the State Philharmonic of Uzbekistan.
Ajiniyaz Kosybayuly (1800-1870) was a prominent poet and bard from Karakalpakstan, widely recognized as a leading figure in folk poetry. His works deeply explored the life, social issues, and concerns of his homeland. Әжінияз’s poetry primarily addresses philosophical, spiritual, and moral questions, filled with reflections on humanity, justice, love, and society. His contributions are a crucial part of the cultural heritage of Karakalpakstan and are still widely read by the people today. His name and legacy are held in high esteem not only in Karakalpakstan but across the Turkic world.
