Azerbaijan to Hold Municipal Elections on January 29, 2025

The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan has officially announced that the next municipal elections will take place on January 29, 2025.

The decision was reached during a regular CEC meeting, where Chairman Mazahir Panahov emphasized the importance of widespread public participation in the democratic process, urging citizens to engage as both voters and candidates. The proposal for the election date was unanimously approved by the commission.

Arifa Mukhtarova, the CEC Secretary, detailed the preparation schedule, which includes:

  • January 6, 2025: Launch of the pre-election campaign.
  • January 19, 2025: Completion of ballot paper production.
  • January 28, 2025: Suspension of campaigning at midnight.

The last municipal elections in Azerbaijan occurred in December 2019, with 15,154 representatives elected to local government bodies. This upcoming election provides another opportunity for Azerbaijani citizens to influence local governance through active participation.

Further updates on the election process and campaign guidelines will be shared by the CEC in the coming weeks.
