Declaration on Strengthening Environmental Cooperation Signed by Turkic States

On November 14, 2024, the First Meeting of Ministers responsible for environmental protection and ecology from the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) was held, marking a significant step toward enhanced regional cooperation on environmental challenges. The meeting focused on critical issues such as water resource management, biodiversity conservation, and climate action.

Minister E. Nysanbayev highlighted the importance of collective regional efforts to address the growing environmental concerns in the OTS member states. The meeting resulted in the signing of a Declaration aimed at fostering long-term and short-term strategies on ecological protection, climate change, and the management of protected areas. The parties also agreed to share information, best practices, and expertise in the fight against environmental degradation.

To further support the implementation of these decisions, the creation of a Working Group at the expert level was proposed. This group will assist in ensuring the effective execution of the commitments laid out in the Declaration.

Looking ahead, the next meeting of the OTS environment ministers is set to take place in Kazakhstan in 2025, reinforcing the commitment of the Turkic states to combat environmental challenges through joint action and collaboration.
