Kazakhstan’s President Meets with ADB President, Celebrates 30 Years of Partnership
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Masatsugu Asakawa in Astana to mark the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan's partnership with ADB and discuss further cooperation. Asakawa's visit coincided with the 23rd Ministerial Conference of the Central Asian Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC).
President Tokayev praised ADB’s role in advancing Kazakhstan’s infrastructure and financial stability, noting that the bank has financed projects worth nearly $7 billion since 1994, including the Western Europe-Western China transport corridor and the Aktobe-Kandyagash road. Looking forward, Tokayev highlighted potential areas for collaboration, especially in economic decarbonization and continued improvements to the country’s investment climate.
Masatsugu Asakawa acknowledged Kazakhstan’s achievements in economic reforms and expressed ADB’s commitment to supporting future projects, including infrastructure and social initiatives. During his visit, ADB and Kazakhstan are expected to sign a $300 million agreement to fund the Kyzylorda-Zhezkazgan highway project, underscoring their shared vision for sustainable development in Central Asia.
