Uzbekistan to Hold Population Census in 2026

Uzbekistan is set to conduct its population census from July 15 to August 21, 2026, as outlined in a draft presidential decree currently open for public discussion.

To facilitate the census, a Republican Commission will be established, along with territorial commissions operating under the Council of Ministers of Karakalpakstan, regional khokimiyats, and the city of Tashkent.

The government plans to acquire the necessary hardware and software for the census with funding from the World Bank. Responsible departments have been tasked with installing signage for settlements and streets and ensuring comprehensive house and courtyard numbering by July 1, 2025.

The census was originally scheduled for 2022 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and again delayed in November 2023 because of funding issues.
