Speaker of Kyrgyz Parliament Proposes Changing the National Anthem
Recently, Nurlanbek Shakiyev, the Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament, suggested the need to change the national anthem of the country. He stated that the anthem should reflect universal values. President Sadyr Japarov supported this proposal, emphasizing that updating the anthem is a normal practice.
Japarov also reminded that the current anthem was written 33 years ago. “Kyrgyz people, your destiny is in your hands; move forward,” the authors of the anthem wrote at that time. According to the president, since then, the country has fully formed as a state and has become known on the international stage. “If a hundred years pass, will we still sing about how we liberated ourselves and became an independent country?” Japarov questioned.
In an interview with the state agency “Kabar,” he confidently stated that the current anthem will not be forgotten. “Why not create an anthem that inspires youth and future generations, highlighting that we are an independent state with a 5,000-year history?” he added.
Additionally, Japarov discussed the possibility of changing the design of the national flag, asserting that the new flag is better than the old one. “On the old flag, the rays looked like either a sunflower or a saw disc. Now, when you look at the new flag, it’s immediately clear that these are rays of the sun shining,” he noted.
The day before, on October 29, 2024, it became known that Japarov signed a decree lowering the ranks of five generals who previously served in the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the country’s special services. The reasons for this decision have not yet been specified.
