Türkiye Marks 101st Republic Day Anniversary

On October 29, Türkiye celebrates its 101st Republic Day, a significant national holiday that holds special importance for Turkish citizens.

In observance of the holiday, public institutions across the country are closed, and festivities are underway in cities nationwide. Republic Day commemorates the historic proclamation by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk on October 29, 1923, when Türkiye was declared a republic. Following a vote by the Grand National Assembly, Ataturk became the first president of the new state. This day has since held a vital place in Türkiye’s history and is celebrated annually.

The first Republic Day celebration took place in 1924, with official recognition as a “national holiday” following in 1925.

The celebrations are being held across all 81 provinces, at Turkish diplomatic missions abroad, and in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will address the nation to commemorate the 101st anniversary of the republic.
