Leaders of China and India Attend BRICS Summit in Kazan

The BRICS summit commenced on October 22, 2024, in Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, Russia. Notable attendees include Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Delegations led by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi are also present.

Kremlin foreign affairs adviser Yuri Ushakov stated that the summit’s agenda focuses on strengthening multilateralism, integrating new members, addressing global issues, and resolving regional conflicts. Approximately 20,000 delegates from 59 countries and about 2,000 journalists are participating in the event.

On the sidelines of the summit, President Xi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, emphasizing the “unprecedented character” of China-Russia relations.

Additionally, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to meet with President Xi, marking their first meeting since 2020, following a recent border agreement aimed at resolving a four-year military standoff.

The BRICS summit in Kazan serves as a platform for these nations to discuss and coordinate on various international and regional issues, reflecting their growing influence in global affairs.
