The new measures were approved by President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, as part of broader efforts to combat domestic violence, according to the Ministry of Justice.
Under these changes, children are now considered protected persons in cases involving physical violence. The amendments specifically address acts of physical abuse within the family.
Additionally, revisions to the Criminal Procedure Code stipulate that requests for reconciliation in domestic violence cases can only be submitted during the trial phase. Previously, such requests were possible during the inquiry and preliminary investigation stages, but this is no longer allowed, ensuring that domestic violence cases proceed to court.
These legislative reforms aim to provide stronger legal safeguards for children and ensure that domestic violence cases are treated with the seriousness they warrant.
