Government Takes Steps to Ensure Food Security and Affordability

The Kazakh government is taking action to address food security and affordability concerns. A recent meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin focused on price stabilization for essential food products.

The Ministry of Trade and Integration has implemented new standards for holding fairs and national exhibitions.

These standards include a calendar schedule for different types of fairs. Importantly, agricultural fairs specifically aim to sell products at lower prices than the market average. Additionally, participation in these fairs is facilitated by a digitalized application process, and all trading spaces are provided free of charge.

Deputy Prime Minister Zhumangarin highlighted the social significance of regional fairs, particularly the upcoming traditional autumn fairs in Astana. These fairs provide additional opportunities for residents to access affordable food options.

The Ministry of Agriculture reported a sufficient reserve of essential food products, including meat, vegetables, dairy products, and fruits. This reserve, along with the ongoing harvest, aims to guarantee access to basic food for all citizens. Price stability is further reflected by the reported -0.2% deflation rate in Kazakhstan since the beginning of 2024.
