Uzbekistan to Turn Medical Waste into Energy
Uzbekistan is set to embark on a groundbreaking project to convert medical waste into thermal energy. In collaboration with the American company Sayar, a new enterprise, Sayar Green, has been established to implement this initiative.
The project, approved by a presidential decree, aims to address the issue of medical waste disposal while generating a sustainable energy source. In its initial phase, the company will invest $7 million to process 6,000 tons of medical waste annually from Tashkent, Samarkand, and Bukhara regions. This will generate 20 GWh of thermal energy.
Over the next decade, the project will expand to process 90,000 tons of medical waste nationwide, producing 300 GWh of energy. The generated thermal energy will be primarily used by medical institutions but can also be sold to other entities.
The government will provide land for the project and establish designated areas for non-medical waste disposal. Additionally, centers for high-temperature processing of pharmaceutical and biological waste will be created.
