Chairman of the People’s Council of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbaev took part in the opening ceremony of the monument, more than 8.5 m high.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, at the opening Berdymukhamedov noted that the installation of the Fragi monument in Astana to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the poet testifies to the eternity and inviolability of the friendship of the two peoples. Ashimbaev, in turn, noted that the poet’s heritage is the property of all humanity. According to him, Fraga’s poetic heritage is perceived in Kazakhstan as an integral part of the general treasury of Turkic culture.
Yesterday Berdimuhamedov arrived to Astana to participate in the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
The International Organization of Turkic Culture declared 2024 the year of the great poet and thinker of the Turkic world; the anniversary of Magtymguly Fragi is also included in the list of significant dates celebrated jointly with UNESCO in 2024-2025. In connection with the anniversary, a large-scale plan of festive events was approved in Turkmenistan and other countries. In Turkmenistan, this year’s motto is “The Fount of the Mind of Magtymguly Fragi.”
Turkmen poet and philosopher of the second half of the 18th century, who is considered the founder of the literary Turkmen language, was born in 1724. With his work, Fragi developed the role of spoken language in poetry, and also abandoned the traditional Arab-Persian metric in favor of the syllabic system. His poems and poems were transmitted orally by musicians and storytellers, and began to be published in the first half of the 19th century.
