The country already faced extreme heat last July when Istanbul recorded a temperature of 41 degrees Celsius, marking the highest in 85 years. The previous record was 40 degrees Celsius, set in 1938.
Currently, temperatures in the popular resort city of Antalya have reached 37 degrees Celsius, while the Izmir region in the west is experiencing 36 degrees Celsius. Due to the intense heat, Turkish beaches remain crowded with tourists and locals even at night.
In southeastern Türkiye, temperatures are setting new records. Sanliurfa province has seen the mercury rise to 49 degrees Celsius, forcing residents to seek refuge in the shade and cool off in fountains and other water bodies.
