CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers Convenes in Almaty
Almaty hosted a significant gathering on June 21st as the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) convened under the chairmanship of Murat Nurtleu, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, the heads of foreign policy from CSTO member states engaged in discussions about the international and regional landscape and its implications for the security of member countries.
During his address, Murat Nurtleu outlined Kazakhstan’s perspectives on CSTO cooperation and the progress made in implementing Kazakhstan’s priorities during its current chairmanship. He also proposed initiatives aimed at advancing comprehensive development within the organization.
Following deliberations, the ministers approved the draft Targeted Interstate Program for bolstering the Tajik-Afghan border, along with several documents focusing on peacekeeping efforts, financial and organizational activities, and the development of international treaties within the CSTO framework.
The Council also endorsed political statements concerning Afghanistan, stabilization efforts in the Middle East and North Africa, the peaceful use of outer space, commemorating Belarus’s liberation from Nazi occupation, and enhancing information security.
The meeting, characterized by a cordial atmosphere, reaffirmed the commitment of all parties to enhance cooperation within the CSTO and fortify the organization’s capabilities.
Additionally, on the sidelines of the Council of Foreign Ministers, Murat Nurtleu held bilateral discussions with Sergey Lavrov, the Foreign Minister of Russia. They explored future prospects for Kazakh-Russian cooperation and outlined a schedule of upcoming joint high-level events for the remainder of the year.
