Kazakhstanis become victims of scammers
Kazakhstanis who wanted to study in Turkey have lost their money to scammers
Parents from Kazakhstan who gave millions of money for their children’s education abroad, became victims of a possible fraud case, Tengrinews.kz reports.
In 2021, a resident of Astana signed an agreement with a company that promised to teach students Turkish language and enroll them in one of the universities in Turkey. However, the last clause of the agreement was not fulfilled.
“We signed a contract with the company. Then our daughter enter the classes and learned the language. Finally this year, she was supposed to enroll to one of university in Turkey. Although they said that you could enter the university with the certificate they gave at the end of the course, we were told that the document appeared invalid when we arrived to Turkey. Because the administration of the university said that “we did not receive any application documents that belong to you”. So they could not accept us.” says Aizhan one of the victims of the fraude case.
According to information that shared by Aizhan, several families from Kazakhstan faced as same situation as she did. All of them have the same story – after arriving in Turkey, the university did not accept them because they did not receive their application documents.
“We paid about 1 million 600 thousand to the company. Now, we want our money back and we want the company to be punished by laws so that there won’t be no more scams and new victims,” said one of the victims.
The Astana Police Department confirmed the incident and announced that a judicial investigation is underway.
“Several residents of Astana city, applied to the police with a collective complaint that unknown persons had taken their money by fraud and breach of trust. During the investigation, it was found that the company made an agreement with the victims to conduct language courses in Turkey and then enroll them in university. An investigation was conducted and juridical operations are already being carried out” said representatives of the Astana Police Department.
