Kyrgyzstan Temporarily Bans Import of Chicken Eggs
Kyrgyzstan has implemented a temporary ban on the import of chicken eggs. This decision was signed by the Cabinet of Ministers on June 5, 2024.
The ban aims to ensure food security, stabilize market prices, and support domestic producers during the spring-summer and summer-autumn periods. Currently, egg production in Kyrgyzstan meets 90-100% of the country’s needs, with a significant increase in production during the summer-autumn period.
However, there is a heightened risk of importing eggs that do not meet food safety standards, potentially leading to the spread of infections and diseases like avian influenza and salmonellosis. This poses serious threats to public health, especially if eggs are imported from countries with poor veterinary control.
The ban will last for six months and excludes the re-export, transit of eggs through Kyrgyzstan, and movement within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) territory.
