Kyrgyz Security Forces Detain Terrorism Suspect

Kyrgyzstan's State Committee for National Security (SCNS) apprehended a citizen suspected of involvement in terrorism and separatist activities.

According to the SCNS press center, the suspect, a Kyrgyz national born in 1984, was identified and detained during an investigation. Authorities withheld the suspect’s identity to protect the investigation.

The SCNS alleges the suspect and accomplices, following the 2010 Kyrgyz ethnic clashes, planned terrorist attacks within Kyrgyzstan. They reportedly acquired firearms and explosives for this purpose.

The press center elaborated that two accomplices were apprehended and sentenced after a weapons and explosives cache was discovered in 2011. The remaining four, including the recently detained suspect, had evaded capture until now. Kyrgyz special services believe two of those fugitives joined and died fighting for terrorist organizations in Syria.

The SCNS emphasizes its ongoing efforts to locate and detain individuals connected to terrorist activities.
