Turkish President Hosts Greek Prime Minister in Ankara
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis made a significant visit to Ankara on May 13, where he held talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. This marks their fourth meeting within a year, following Erdogan's visit to Athens in December 2023.
During Mitsotakis’ visit, the leaders delved into various aspects of Turkish-Greek relations, exploring avenues for further cooperation. They also exchanged views on regional and global issues, with discussions revolving around the signing of agreements aimed at strengthening the bilateral foundation.
Both leaders reiterated their commitment to normalizing relations, emphasizing deepening cooperation in key areas such as economy, trade, tourism, healthcare, and transportation.
Observers in Türkiye perceive the recent surge in dialogue between Ankara and Athens as a significant stride towards normalization, following Erdogan’s historic visit to Athens last December. The Athens Declaration on Friendly Relations and Good Neighborhood, signed during Erdogan’s visit, serves as a cornerstone for ongoing negotiations in Ankara.
The declaration underscores the mutual commitment to fostering friendly relations, mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and resolving disputes through peaceful means in line with international law.
Presently, Türkiye and Greece are actively working to bolster their positive agenda through constructive political dialogue, an expanded joint action plan, and confidence-building measures.
