Changes Planned for Identity Cards in Kazakhstan
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan has proposed revisions to the citizen identity card format in the country, introducing alterations to the information displayed.
Under the proposed changes, the identity card of a citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan would now feature gender information visibly in the card’s visual zone.
According to the document, the front side of the identity card would showcase the individual’s photograph, signature, and personal details such as last name, first name, patronymic (if applicable), date of birth, gender, and individual identification number.
The front side of the card would also bear the State Emblem of the Republic of Kazakhstan, along with inscriptions in both Kazakh and Russian languages detailing identification information.
Currently, gender information in the identity card is embedded within the document’s chip and encoded within its machine-readable zone.
Furthermore, citizenship information would also be relocated to the visual area of the document.
Consequently, the reverse side of the identity card would display the individual identification number encoded as a barcode, the contact portion of the microchip, personal information regarding place of birth, nationality, and citizenship, as well as details concerning the issuing authority, issuance date, and validity period of the card.
The nationality field on the identity card would be included based on the request of the cardholder.
The reverse side would be divided into two sections: the upper part containing the visual zone with encoded information and inscriptions in both Kazakh and Russian languages, and the lower part containing the machine-readable zone.
Currently, citizenship information is stored within the document’s chip and encoded within its machine-readable zone.
The proposed changes are open for public discussion until May 21, with the document available on the Open Legal Regulations website.
