Lufthansa Temporarily Halts Tehran Flights Over Security Concerns
German airline Lufthansa has made the decision to suspend flights to and from the Iranian capital, Tehran, citing security concerns.
The suspension will remain in effect until at least Thursday, April 11, 2024.
The decision was announced by Lufthansa’s spokesperson, who emphasized that passenger and crew safety is the airline’s utmost priority. The company stated that it would reassess the situation on Thursday before making any further decisions.
The move comes amidst escalating tensions in the region following the recent destruction of the Iranian consulate in Damascus on April 1. The airstrike resulted in casualties, including Iranian generals and diplomats. While Iranian President has promised a strong response, no immediate action has been taken. However, concerns remain high, with the CIA warning of potential military operations by Iran against Israel within 48 hours of the consulate attack. Although such actions did not materialize, US intelligence agencies fear the incident could lead to a broader conflict in the region.
