Taiwan’s 7.4-Magnitude Earthquake Claims 9 Lives and Leaves 1,038 Injured
A devastating earthquake in Taiwan has resulted in the loss of nine lives and left 1,038 individuals injured, as reported by the Chinese international broadcaster CGTN, citing emergency authorities.
With 52 people still missing and another 93 trapped under debris, the aftermath of the earthquake, which occurred on the morning of April 3, continues to unfold.
The earthquakes, the strongest in 25 years, measured at magnitudes of 7.7 and 6.6 according to the Taiwan Meteorological Service. Over 60 aftershocks followed, worsening the widespread damage.
The impact of the earthquakes was felt not only in Taiwan but also across the Japanese islands of Okinawa and Miyako, prompting a tsunami threat. Reports from local media outlets indicate significant destruction of buildings in Hualien, underscoring the severity of the situation.
