Ancient Khiva Named Tourist Capital of the Islamic World

The historic city of Khiva in Uzbekistan has been honored with the title of "Tourist Capital of the Islamic World 2024" by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

This prestigious designation was awarded to Khiva during the XI session of OIC member countries’ tourism ministers held in Baku, Azerbaijan, in June 2022. The decision highlights Khiva’s rich cultural heritage and significance as a prominent tourist destination within the Islamic world.

The announcement ceremony was attended by representatives from the OIC Secretariat, tourism ministers from member states, international experts, and media professionals.

In May of this year, Khiva will host the XII session of OIC member countries’ tourism ministers. The event will feature the “Dishes of the Khans of Khorezm” gastronomic festival, a scientific and practical conference, as well as photo and art exhibitions.

Additionally, November will witness the “International Pilgrimage Tourism Week,” during which a scientific and practical conference titled “Khiva–Touristic Center of Islamic Civilization” will take place. This conference aims to unlock the potential for pilgrimage tourism in Khiva, further enhancing its status as a hub of Islamic civilization.
