Uzbekistan Lifts Restrictions: Women Now Allowed to Drive Passenger Buses

The Ministry of Transport has announced a significant change: women are now permitted to drive passenger buses, overturning previous restrictions.

Until now, women faced limitations when it came to driving trucks or buses categorized under “C” and “D”. However, following a decision by the Cabinet of Ministers, these restrictions have been removed.

Previously, women could only drive these vehicles under specific conditions outlined by the Ministry of Employment and Poverty Reduction and the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan. However, these regulations have been lifted, allowing women to drive trucks weighing more than 2.5 tons and buses capable of carrying over 14 passengers.

This move not only strengthens the legal framework but also opens up new opportunities for women across various sectors. It’s a significant step towards gender equality in transportation and encourages women to take on roles driving larger capacity buses, including e-buses.
