The revised national flag of Kyrgyzstan was raised on Ala-Too Square in Bishkek, TuraNews.kz reports.
The event, attended by high-profile dignitaries including Akylbek Japarov, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, and Secretary of State Suyunbek Kasmambetov, unfolded on the main square of Bishkek.
This development stems from the adoption of the updated national flag by the Jogorku Kenesh on December 20, 2023. The bill, “On Amendments to the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic on State Symbols of the Kyrgyz Republic,” was passed without discussion in the second and third readings. Subsequently, on December 22, 2023, President Sadyr Japarov signed the law, officially bringing the new national flag into effect on December 26.
The inaugural raising of the redesigned national flag occurred on the morning of January 1, 2024, sparking active discussions on social media platforms. The altered design prompted varied opinions, with a considerable number expressing negative sentiments. The ceremony, nonetheless, stands as a significant moment in Kyrgyzstan’s symbolic representation and generated widespread public engagement in the discourse surrounding the nation’s new flag.
