Mongolia’s Population Surpasses 3.5 Million, Continues Upward Trend
Mongolia’s total population has exceeded 3.5 million people, TuraNews.kz reports citing the Kazinfrom agency
B. Enkhjargal, a statistician in the Census and Housing Division of the National Statistics Committee, shared that this estimate is based on data related to births, deaths, and vital statistics over the past three years.
Enkhjargal explained that the calculations consider an average rate of one child born every seven minutes and 16 seconds, one person passing away every 27 minutes and 46 seconds, and the overall population increasing by one person every nine minutes and 55 seconds. If this pattern continues into 2023, Mongolia’s population is expected to maintain its growth trend, having already surpassed the 3.5 million mark.
The method employed for this estimation aligns with the approach used by the UN and the US Census Bureau in calculating the World Population Hour. Enkhjargal highlighted that the current population milestone contrasts with earlier years, such as 1962 when Mongolia’s population was at 1 million, 1988 when it reached 2 million, and 2015 when it marked its three millionth citizen. Projections suggest that Mongolia is on track to hit 4 million in 2033 and 5 million in 2048.
