Kazakhstan Offers 30-50% Rail Freight Discounts to Tajikistan

Kazakhstan Railway (Kazakhstan Temir Zholy) has proposed significant discounts ranging from 30% to 50% for Tajik freight carriers, aiming to stimulate an increase in cargo volumes, as revealed by Ambassador Valikhan Turakhanov during a meeting with Tajikistan’s Minister of Transport, Azim Ibrokhim, TuraNews.kz reports.

Presently, there are five established road routes connecting the two countries, facilitating the movement of goods and passengers. Over the first 11 months of the current year, the passenger traffic between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan reached 5,259 individuals. Discussions during the meeting revolved around plans

to further expand cooperation in the road transport sector, with both parties expressing satisfaction with the existing collaboration and affirming their commitment to its expansion, particularly in the transport domain.

Earlier reports highlighted the establishment of a joint venture and a transport and distribution center at the Khatlon station in Tajikistan. This initiative is expected to contribute to increased transportation efficiency and enhance food security in the region.

Trade between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan has seen substantial volumes, exceeding 4 million tons last year and reaching 2.7 million tons in the first half of the current year. Despite a 19.1% decrease in Tajik-Kazakh trade turnover for the first ten months of 2023, amounting to $937 million, both nations remain significant trading partners.
