Kyrgyzstan Confirms No Plans to Raise Retirement Age Despite Increasing Life Expectancy

Baktiyar Aliyev, the head of the Social Fund, reassured that there are no intentions to raise the retirement age in Kyrgyzstan, TuraNews.kz reports citing the Kabar agency.

Aliyev emphasized that the current retirement age for women remains at 58 years, and for men, it is 63 years. This decision stands even as the World Health Organization (WHO) indicates a global increase in average life expectancy by four years over the past 15 years, a trend mirrored in Kyrgyzstan.

Speaking on the matter, Aliyev acknowledged the positive demographic shift, stating, “If you look at the past 20 years, more than 2 thousand people over 80 years old lived in our country, but now there are more than 58 thousand people.”

Despite the noticeable rise in life expectancy, he pointed out that this indicates the Social Fund will be responsible for disbursing pensions for an extended duration.
